For lovers of walking, hit the hiking in cold weather is not a deterrent. All it takes is a little knowledge and preparation for a safe and pleasant trip to make.

Knowing how to dress well and some additional items to be included on the walk is essential. Proper clothing includes items such as waterproof, insulated hiking boots, hiking socks and polypropylene in long underwear tops and bottoms. Do not wear cotton shirts or trousers. The basic hat, scarf and gloves are important. The hat helps maintain body temperature control and a lot of heat can be lost through the head. Mittens instead of gloves, so easy layering and the scarf helps maintain breathing power which can be constrained by the cold air. Basic knowledge of the layering system will help reduce overheating. Wearing several thin layers is better than wearing a heavy layer. It is important to ensure that the bottom layer of clothing is one that will moisture from the skin.

Besides clothing, there are other items needed to maintain a healthy trip on the footpath. While outside in the winter, the sun is still shining and protecting the skin is still very important. The use of sunscreen and lip protection is strongly recommended. Small objects that fit in a pocket like hand warmers are good back-up provisions.

Keep the body well hydrated and energetic as a major concern in winter climates such as in the summer. As the weather gets colder, the body with more energy and burn more calories by trying to keep themselves warm. It is important to continue to eat more food, but in smaller portions. Water is essential and must be readily available. Water tends to freeze from the top to the bottom. Turn the bottle upside down to prevent the mouth of the bottle freezing. Staying hydrated is important because of the added winter offers strenuous hiking activity, especially when there is snow.

Other safeguards are aware of is that during the winter once the days are shorter. It tends to rather dark in the winter season. Plan trips by starting early and ending early and always a flashlight.
