The schedule for December 3 and 4 includes 22 CHC Lifting Conference sessions, five Focus Forward, Part 1: Bridge Infrastructure forums and Roads & Bridges' presentation of the 2008 Top 10 Bridge projects. The event concludes with a tour of the Hoover Dam Bypass work site on Thursday afternoon. Attendees are welcome to attend sessions of their choice from both conferences.

I-35W/Accelerated Construction
Hugh Boyle and Mike Arens, Michael Baker Jr., Inc.
This presentation will cover the Utah Department of Transportation’s Accelerated Bridge Construction program. The agency is currently using self-propelled modular transporters (SPMTs), and Boyle and Arens will talk about the success of this process.
Alan R. Phipps, P.E., S.E., SVP, Director of Operations, FIGG and design manager for I-35W
Phipps has played a key role in the design of the new I-35W bridge, which is expected to be completed in mid-September. Phipps will talk about how this demanding accelerated schedule was met.
Bridge Privatization and the Law
Dr. Enrique Alejo, Ph.D.
Dr. Alejo is the Economic and Commercial Counselor of Spain for the Midwest in Chicago. Spanish-based Cintra has launched several successful privatization efforts abroad and in the U.S., including the Chicago Skyway and the Trans-Texas Corridor Dr. Alejo will talk about the benefits and future movement of privatization in the road and bridge industry.
Larry Caudle
Larry Caudle is a principal in Kraftson Caudle LLC and the law columnist for Roads & Bridges magazine. Caudle will address critical legal issues in the road and bridge industry.
Fernando Redondo
Redondo is the chief executive officer of the Chicago Skyway Toll Bridge and chief executive officer of the Indiana Toll Road. Redondo will talk about the public-private partnership involving the Chicago Skyway, a 7.8-mile facility that links the south side of Chicago with Indiana, and the Indiana Toll Road, which is a 156-mile toll road connecting northwest Indiana to Ohio. Both were leased to CINTRA.
Future Strategy for the U.S. Bridge System
FHWA Administrator Thomas J. Madison, Jr. will discuss the current condition of the bridge infrastructure in the U.S.
and strategies for the future.
Bridge Inspection/Monitoring
Brian J. Leshko, P.E.
Leshko is a vice president, professional associate and national bridge inspection program leader for HDR Engineering, Inc. He will speak on rope access inspections of 12 fracture critical bridges located throughout Alaska.
Ray McCabe
McCabe is the national director of HNTB’s bridges and tunnel practice.
Peter Vanderzee
Vanderzee is CEO of LifeSpan Technologies. He will be speaking on advancements in bridge monitoring.
Bridge Construction/Design
Peter Crisci, Americas Business Leader, Integrated Solutions, Enerpac
Crisci will offer a presentation that showcases innovative uses of high-pressure hydraulics and computer controls to facilitate bridge construction. The technologies will include computerized synchronous lifting, strand jacking and incremental bridge launching to accelerate construction and improve safety.
Daniel Faust, AECOM Transportation
Faust is a vice president within the national toll practice at AECOM Transportation. He is the former chief engineer of the Delaware River Port Authority of Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Faust will make a presentation on the Walt Whitman Bridge main span rehabilitation. The work involves replacing the existing bridge deck and performing structural steel strengthening and repairs on a major suspension bridge while maintaining traffic.
